New England Sports Center in Marlboro once again will play host to the annual Garrett Reagan Summit. This year’s 11th edition will take place Sunday, Dec. 2, featuring a record 70 boys and girls hockey teams from across Massachusetts. Last year’s event had the previous high of 68 teams playing spread across NESC’s eight rinks, as the Summit has continued to grow in size each of the last five years.
Each team will play in a jamboree-style mini-game consisting of two 15-minute periods, played under regular MIAA rules.
Among this year’s scheduled participants are 10 girls hockey teams, the most that have played in the Summit since 2010. The Medfield/Norton, Medford/Malden and Natick girls teams each will be making their Reagan Summit debuts, as will the Gloucester and Westboro boys.
The Waltham girls and boys are among the teams that have taken part in all 11 Summits since the event was created in 2008 and first played in honor of Garrett Reagan, the late longtime Hingham boys hockey coach.
Other boys teams making their 11th overall appearance include: Braintree, Burlington, Duxbury, Hingham, Malden Catholic, Marlboro, Marshfield, Newton North, Newton South, Pope Francis (ex-Springfield Cathedral), Reading and Xaverian.
