There was a discussion in the Globe forum about Coach Bob Roach, the present Coach of the Shawsheen Woman’s team, I am not sure they mentioned him by name, but they were saying that he started both Lynn programs. I would like to make the record straight, as would he.
Bob was in on the ground floor at St. Mary’s when they began as a club team, he was assistant to the then head Coach Jamie Trahant, as was future head coach Todd Langlais (now an assistant at BU Woman’s hockey). Bob coached there for several years and his daughter Michelle was a fine player for the program at that time.
He then moved on as the head coach to begin a fledgling program at Lynn English, where he was again tasked with getting a program “off the ground” and obviously he did a fine job.
Recently, Shawsheen decided to initiate a woman’s hockey team, and since Bob taught there, he was a natural for the job; needless to say he knew what it took to begin a program and develop it successfully. We wish him all the luck in the world; he’s a great person and obviously knows what he’s doing on the ice.
